17 Weeks {And Some Cute New Shoes}

And, I’m not talking about shoes for my sore feet (though I could use some more supportive footwear options, myself).

No, I’m talking about hot pink and lime green infant sandals.

The. Absolute. Cutest. Thing. You’ve. Ever. Laid. Eyes. On.

Impractical too.

Still, when David and I saw the 0-3 month-sized slipper sandals on clearance this week, we couldn’t help ourselves. I’m in baby-style heaven.

Anyway…

Abigail is now the size of a navel orange (or an onion, depending on your preference) and about 5.12 inches long, weighing about 5-6 ounces! According to my phone’s Pregnancy app, Abby’s taste buds are now beginning to make out differences in flavor. Her veins are becoming less obvious as fat formation begins. She is big enough to fit into the palm of my hand.

How far along? 17 weeks, 2 days

Total weight gain: Maybe 1/2 pound. However, I’m losing my waist and getting “thick.” It is hard to describe, but I’ve a layer of “cushion” attaching itself to my entire torso.

Maternity clothes? Maternity leggings and long tunic shirts are my friends! Getting dressed is a frustrating process, as my belly bump is much bigger by the end of the day and hard to keep comfortable. Most of my clothes still fit, but they look different and certainly feel less comfy than normal!

Stretch marks?  No

Sleep: Very sleepy. As a teacher, I’m accustomed to exhaustion at this point in the semester. However, I can’t use espresso as a pick-me-up nor can I operate on as a little sleep as I seemed able to do in the past. I find myself eating my way through my afternoons just to stay awake at my desk.

Best moment the past week: Baby-clothes shopping with David. He loves pink, and I’m delighted. Our favorite stores are definitely Baby Gap and Old Navy. Ironically, Gymbaree and some of the other more speciality stores were not nearly to our liking.

Miss Anything? Coffee. It is one of the few things that still can turn my stomach. Pimple-free skin. Sleeping in without having to pee in the wee hours of the morning.

Movement: I felt Abby twice this week. The movement felt like a combination of being tickled and gas (weird, I know). I can’t wait till I actually feel that first “kick.”

Food cravings:  Not really. Generally, my cravings last about 30 minutes, and I can usually avoid whatever unhealthy treat I’m desiring by simply waiting it out and eating something else. So far, I conquered M&Ms and brownie craving that way this week.

Anything making you queasy or sick: Not eating often enough (how is that even possible?!?). Coffee. Tired evening hours.

Labor Signs:  No, thank you.

Symptoms:  Exhaustion. Stretching ligaments, skin, and belly. Bloating. Pimples.

Belly Button in or out?  In.

Looking forward to:  Feeling Abby move a lot more in the future!

Next appointment:  November 19 at Avista Women’s Care when we will test for Spina Bifida and once again listen to baby’s heart beat. IMG_1317
